What to Look for in a Dance Studio

Look in the Yellow Pages or search the Web for dance studios near you that teach ballroom dancing as their principal service. Ask about the experience level of the teachers. Look for studios that offer group classes, and private lessons that can be purchased one at a time as well as in discounted packages. Start with a few lessons, and add more as needed.

Classes should be flexibly scheduled and should clearly indicate the dances that are taught. The most popular dances for a wedding reception include foxtrot, slow dance, swing, Latin, and waltz. Ask about class size. It is easier to learn in smaller classes. If you are taking private lessons, ask if you will have a private room. You will feel more focused if you have a room of your own. A private room also enables you to dance to your specific music.

Dance lessons shouldn’t break your budget. Classes typically run about $10-$15 per hour. Private lessons usually fall in the $55-$65 per hour range. To obtain the best value for your money inquire about special packages and discounts.
