When to Begin Your Lessons

To feel confident on the dance floor, you must first learn the basics of partner dancing. This requires planning. Time for group classes and/or private lessons should be scheduled into your wedding planner. Although your first dance need not be a professional exhibition, a few minutes of simple, polished dancing adds style and interest to the event and helps set the tone for the activities that follow.

Don’t wait until the last minute to begin your dance lessons. Remember that your schedule will get very hectic as your wedding day approaches. If you choose to start your instruction with classes, plan to begin your classes about three months in advance of your wedding day. This allows plenty of time to learn and practice your steps. You will also have time to take a few private lessons following the classes to focus exclusively on the music you have selected for your first dance. During private lessons we will show you how to enter and leave the dance floor with style, and teach you additional dance steps to complete your first dance choreography.

The average couple takes from three to five private lessons to prepare for their first dance. If you are interested in learning other dances for your wedding reception, you should plan to take additional classes or lessons.

In order to keep your dancing fresh and focused, it is a good idea to schedule your last lesson within two weeks of your wedding day.
