Matthew Jacobson moved to Chicago in 2016 from Sacramento California with his wife to attend Grad School at the University of Chicago to earn a Masters’ in Public Policy. He first started dancing in high school when swing dancing caught his eye. Matthew was eager to learn more and started taking private lessons at a local dance studio. Then in 2006 Matthew was recruited from Spotlight Ballroom Studio in Sacramento to be trained as an instructor and has been teaching ever since!
While at Spotlight Ballroom he choreographed and performed over 50 routines with students of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Once he moved to Chicago for Grad school at the University of Chicago he helped coach the Ballroom and latin Dance Association at the University and helped coordinate a showcase of their students as well as choreographed a ensemble piece. Since Matthew has worked with so many different level of dancers he really takes the time to make sure his students have a full understanding of the what they are learning in a fun environment without making the student feel overwhelmed. Matthew says what's most important to him is “Making sure students feel like they can accomplish what they set out to do in a meaningful way, but that they still have challenges to overcome”.
Matthew teaches both group classes and privates lessons here at Dance Center Chicago. He specializes in Ballroom, West Coast Swing, and Night-Club 2 Step in addition to other types of social dance styles.
