Bachata is a Dominican dance that has become one of the most popular social Latin dances in the world. At Dance Center Chicago, our structured program takes you from your very first steps through intermediate and advanced partnering technique.
Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your styling and sensual elements, our 5-level curriculum gives you a clear path forward. Pair Bachata with Salsa and you'll be fully equipped to enjoy Chicago's vibrant Latin dance scene.
In each class you'll be introduced to the fundamental figures, timing, and partnership skills of the dance — in a welcoming, structured environment.

Curriculum
Five Levels of Bachata
A clear, progressive path from first steps to advanced partnering.
Bachata Level 1
Perfect for those who have never danced before or are new to this style. Over 4 weeks you'll learn the core figures: side basic, forward & back basic, inside turns, cuddle, and hammer lock — the building blocks of every great Bachata dancer.
Bachata Level 2
Prerequisite: Bachata Level 1
Builds directly on Level 1. We review all fundamentals then introduce reverse turns, cross walks, and 180's — expanding your vocabulary and confidence on the social dance floor.
Bachata Level 3
Prerequisite: Bachata Level 2
Focus shifts to footwork artistry. You'll master the Stutter Step and Tap Steps, and learn shadow position for leads — adding style and expression to every move.
Bachata Level 4
Prerequisite: Level 3 or 4–5 months equivalent
A deep dive into prep turns and delayed turns — one month each. Most students repeat this class while advancing. Strong focus on partner connection and lead-and-follow technique.
Bachata Level 5
Prerequisite: Strong foundation in Levels 1–4
Our intermediate/advanced class. Higher-level combinations, refined partnering technique, complex figures, and an introduction to Sensual Bachata elements. A strong foundation in all previous levels is required.
